2011 in review

Another year is over and I hope everyone is enjoying their break.  Looking back over the past year what would you say was a highlight for you?

Enrolments for 2011 finish 30 November

During December we will not be starting any new children,  If your child turns 5 during the month of December or you intend starting a child (relocating here) in 2012 please get them enrolled before the end of this term (15 December).  This way we can plan for their arrival when they start Wednesday 1st February 2012 - start of Term 1.

Rugby World Cup

Not long to go now!!!!  As well as supporting the All Blacks (and our Pacific neighbours) we have adopted Wales, so we all have a lot of teams to support.  The Senior and Middle School classes will be doing lots of work around the cup starting 5th of September (just before kick off of the tournament) so be prepared for lots of rugby talk coming home from school.

So who do you think is going to win??  Who are you going to support??

Brrrr it's a bit chilly!

Hope everyone is nice and wrapped up keeping warm during this cold front.  Please remember to wear your jackets to school so that they can be taken off and leave your sweatshirt nice and dry as we don't want people catching the cold!

Rugby League Tornament coming up next Monday.

Leabank Primary School has entered an Open Weight Team in the A.R.L.- Counties/Manukau Rugby League Regional Tornament on Monday 15th August held at Mountfort Park. There are two divisions, Open Weight & Under 45kg. The Competition starts at 9.30am to 2.30pm. There will be more than 20 schools entering this Tornament. Please come along and support the team & enjoy the day, watching the team compete and to show their amazing skills of catching, passing, running, tackling, & kicking. So see you there!

HOMEWORK

Malo e lelei Parents/Caregivers of Room 10!

Just a reminder that homework is given out every Mondays, this would be a reading diary with a reading book, a basic facts notebook with basic facts to learn for the week, also a spelling notebook with spelling words to be learned for the week.

Please make sure that your child is reading every day, working on their basic facts daily as well as learning their spelling words regularly too.   Please make sure that these are signed and returned daily to school as these are all collected on Fridays.

Museum Trip

Room 23 visited the Museum on Tuesday. It's really changed since I was there last with so many more displays and quite a lot of live displays and interactive activities. Our focus was volcanoes and earthquakes so we spent quite a while in there. The volcano house was scary. It showed us what would happen if there was a volcano erupting in Auckland, which could happen at any time. A bit of a worry.

We had some great parents come with us and all the children were wonderful. Thank you all for a great day.

Year 5 and 6 Interschool Netball Tournament

Mrs Hamilton, Kym and Whaea Pearl are taking two teams to Browns Road Netball Courts next Tuesday 16 August to compete in the Interschool Netball Tournament.

Looking forward to seeing lots of parents at the courts to support their girls.  Go Leabank!!!!

Christchurch Earthquake

Staff at the school have been shocked by the events in Christchurch yesterday, many who have friends and family living there.  We will be talking to your children about what has happened and will be happening over the next days, weeks and months.  We encourage you to discuss this with your children, and to answer any questions that they may have.  If your children are feeling distressed after the discussions, please talk to your child's teacher so we can help your child.

School Stationery for 2011

We would like to stress the importance of getting stationery for your child as soon as possible. It will benefit your child if they are prepared for their day of learning and have what they need for all their school work. We like all children to start working in their books at the same time, so we are able to go through setting out procedures and work expectations together. For this to happen we would really like all children to have their stationery by the end of week 4 if possible.
