Kelly Tarlton's Visit
On Tuesday 27th October the Senior School visited Kelly Tarlton's on Tamaki Drive in Auckland City. We visited Kelly Tarlton's as part of our Inquiry unit, learning about the Polar Regions. We were accompanied by an amazing group of parents and caregivers.
The students were blown away by the penguins and how cold the water at Antarctica is. Room 18's challenge was to see how long we could keep our hands in the freezing water. Our champion was Layne George. She kept her hand in the freezing water for over 2 minutes. Mrs Hamilton was concerned her fingers were going to fall off.
In the classroom we were able to try on the clothes those people working in Antarctica have to wear so they can survive in the freezing conditions. There was velcro being used everywhere.
We learnt that Antarctica is the coldest, whitest, driest, furthest, and windiest. It was a very exciting trip, that was topped off by a visit to a nearby playground, to have a run around in the sun before we got on the bus to travel home.
